Wenjiang, a district of Chengdu, China, located in the central part of Sichuan, known as “the Land of Abundance”, is an open and composed city, enjoying the reputation of Golden Wenjiang and Flower Capital in west China. It covers an area of 227 km2 and with a population of 338,400 and one of National Class Ecological Demonstrative Areas Passing through the Wenjiang urban area from northwest to southeast, Jiang’an River, Yangliu River and Fengxi River, the three branches belong to the river system of Minjiang River, a branch of Yangtze River. Chengdu, as a metropolis in west China, bears a major responsibility for protecting the environment of Yangtze River basin. The Comprehensive Restoration Project for the River System in Wenjiang urban area that is on the west of Chengdu has played a major role in building the ecological defense in the upper reaches of Yangtze River and improving the living environment of cities as well as setting an example for the river restoration in the cities of China’s west.
The river system in Wenjiang has given birth to the ancient Shu Kingdom culture. The three rivers reach a total length of 17 km (inside the urban area). After the Restoration, the water supplied by the three rivers will amount to over 90% of the industrial water, agricultural water and domestic water.
