For a long time, Qingpu, a land of rivers and lakes in the outer suburbs of Shanghai was ignored, and its city's development lagged behind relatively. After entering the 21st century, the local government has gathered the intelligence and strength of various fields, proposed the city developing object “Qingpu, a green watertown, one of the best inhabitable city”, and worked out the meticulous plan with the local characteristics, respecting nature and history. Many world famous urban planners, architects, developers and builders have been gathered in Qingpu to work on the key construction and protection of environment in order to inherit and develop its 6,000-year history creatively. The new city of Qingpu shows the unique glamour of “ancient charm with clear water and green”, which raises the residents’ satisfaction and pride rapidly and has got the better way to make the suburbs of megalopolis become urbanized and modernized for developing countries. At present, the local government is mobilizing the various circles of society to take hold of the golden opportunity that World Expo will be held in Shanghai in 2010 to realize the goal: “Better city, better life”.
