The neighbourhood Ojo de Agua is a settlement with precarious conditions of the housings and absence of basic services, located in the heart of the Metropolitan Park of Havana, where it enjoys the environmental conditions and the landscape of this natural park.
The neighbours have created their own Neighbourhood Council for the administration of the territory and to guarantee the continuity of the actions of physical and social transformation, on this way they are building their new houses.
A project of collaboration in Association of Actors, it has facilitated the training and the neighbours' participation in construction topics, protection of the environment, reforestation, natural residual treatment and social development.
Four Cuban organizations are participating in this project: CIERIC, GDIC, ACTAF and the Metropolitan Park of Havana, in coordination with the French ONG Fréres des Hommes. Some specialists, research centres and the University collaborate to improve the life conditions in the neighbourhood, teaching in house construction, project management, protection of the environment, treatment of domestic waste and so on.
The neighbours are now skill workers in prefab and construction, they decide their conflicts in a collective discussion, looking for the best results for the community.
This community become in an ecological settlement due to the efforts of the neighbours to maintain the natural environment, the possibility to increase their incomes from legal jobs with the capacity to assume some new inversions, also they are in best conditions to resolve any common problem.
