Summary:

AMMAR is a grassroots organization formed by sex workers women (SWW), we are who integrate and conduct de organization. Our organization began to be developing as an answer to permanent police violence. This was the main factor though we realized that the organization were the strength and the engine to achieve the objectives that should benefit this population and the whole society.

For being women, poor and sex workers, doors of our own families and society had been closed, but form our organization we had configured ourselves as subjects with rights and strategic actors for social development.

The AMMAR Proyect is founded in the importance of self-organization of a women population historically excluded and discriminated. By the strength and self-organization of sex worker women we look foward to know and claim for our rights and defend our work freedom. We promote educative actions and of health promotion not only for our community but for all society.

Strengthing organization and self esteem, we help the empowerment of SWW. In AMMAR we are building and trainning leaders and multiply agents to work among our pairs and to do actions of management and policy incidence that allow us encourage our problems to be discussed in goverment arena. Our pourpuse is generating public policies that place us un equality of conditions with any other person and that our voice be listened at the time of make policies related to our community.

Since the constitution of AMMAR, since our strenthness, trainning and self organization we acomplished a replacement of SWW: it is debating publically realities that until ten years ago were socially ignored and absent in any public agenda.

One of the results of this process is the creation in La Plata City of the Center of Integral Health “Sandra Cabrera” first experience not only in our country but in all the region of a Health Center specific for SWW, open to community and co managed by SWW themselves and by a public office, the Ministry of Health of Buenos Aires Province.
