UN-HABITAT has joined 19 other agencies of the United Nations in a new 2013-2017 United Nations Development Action Framework (UNDAF) for India.
The Framework was signed 24 November by Mrs. Sudha Pillai, Member Secretary representing the Government of India, and United Nations Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative, Mr. Patrice Coeur-Bizot.
UN-HABITAT is one of the agencies which forms part of the 2013-2017 Framework following a visit to India in September by UN-HABITAT Executive Director Dr. Joan Clos.
"For UN-HABITAT is really important to be part of the UNDAF 2013-2017 due to the urban challenges that the most of countries will face in coming years and we will work to work together to focus on urban planning and design as a solution to improve cities," Dr. Clos said.
During that visit, Dr. Clos highlighted the importance of UN-HABITAT's expertise as India's urban population continues to grow.
