UN-Habitat Executive Director Dr. Joan Clos on Tuesday met the President of Senegal Macky Sall, during which the issue of flooding which recently affected most cities of Senegal including Dakar the Capital City, was the main topic.
The Head of State requested the technical and financial support from UN-HABITAT to address the issue in a sustainable way. In response, the Executive Director reassured President Sall of UN-HABITAT's support, especially in preparation of a drainage master plan which would be implemented gradually. He also stressed the need for a better planning of cities with special attention to public space and related urban legislation.
Dr. Clos is in Senegal attending the Africities Summit meeting currently underway in the capital city Dakar. |
