A round table as a lead-up to the 24th Session of the UN-Habitat's Governing Council was held on Sunday, Introduced by Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, the Secretary-General's Special Advisor on Post-2015, and Dr. Joan Clos, the Executive Director of UN-Habitat, the event focused on the role of urbanization in the post-2015 sustainable development agenda. The round table brought together representatives of civil society, local authorities and delegations from more than 10 member states, including Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Germany, India, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Russia, Uganda and Zambia, and featured several other speakers including Ms. Amal I Pepple, Minister of Land Housing and Urban Development of Nigeria, and Mr. Wolfgang Schuster, President of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions. Dr. Clos reminded the audience that urbanization is not an outcome of development, rather instead a source and accelerator of development. He stated that a new development paradigm must focus on urbanization, gender policies and decentralization. Ms. Mohammed concluded by reminding the group that the world contains more than enough information to formulate its solutions; what is urgently required now is the integration of sectoral disciplines.
