About the Special Human Settlements Programme for the Palestinian People (SHSPPP)
UN-Habitat is mandated to work in Occupied Palestinian Territory since 2003, when its Governing Council created the Special Human Settlements Programme for the Palestinian People and the Technical Cooperation Trust Fund (GC 19/18). The resolution was approved by consensus.
In 2011, during the 23rd Governing Council of UN-Habitat, a new resolution was adopted (CG23/2) calling upon UN-Habitat to further focus its operation on planning, land and housing issues with a view to improving the human settlements conditions of Palestinians, addressing the urbanization challenges, supporting the buildings of a Palestinian State and fostering humanitarian action and peace building in the areas where acute humanitarian and development needs.
The United Nations Human Settlement Programme, UN-Habitat, is the United Nations agency for sustainable urban development. UN-Habitat has been working in human settlements throughout the world. The efforts of UN-Habitat have been focused on building a better future for developing villages, towns and cities of all sizes, which are most in need to support in guiding the process of urbanization.
