Local leadership and skills management training was completed for the seven Somaliland districts (Burao, Hargeisa, Boroma, Sheikh, Odweyne, Berbera, and Gabiley) the UN Joint Programme on Local Governance and Decentralized Service Delivery is working in.
The 12-day training sessions, held between April and June, covered negotiation, communication, facilitation, decision making, policymaking, and finance, among other skills. At the request of the Ministry of Interior, 21 local leaders from 3 additional districts (Aynab, Erigavo, and Las Anood) were invited and participated in the training.
A total of 179 local leaders, both men and women, took part. The districts have reported positive impacts from the training, as councillors apply the negotiation and leadership skills in their daily duties.
