The International Labour Organization (ILO) has been implementing Local Economic Development (LED) activities in Somalia since 2002. ILO technical assistance under the SUDP started in October 2005. Activities aim to support and promote LED by strengthening municipal and other stakeholder capacities. The starting point is city economic profiling which will provide an economic analysis tool for Strategic Planning activities to identify and improve employment opportunities of low-income communities in urban works in the deliverly of urban services.

Background:

The International Labour Organization has created economic profiles (territorial and institutional mapping) for four regions, as part of the local economic development component. These studies will allow municipalities to focus on priority areas for economic development and employment generation.
