A prestigious Canadian award for UN-HABITAT Bookmark and Share

The Canadian Institute of Planners has bestowed UN-HABITAT and EcopLan International an excellence award in Planning in recognition of their work in Local Economic Development.

The certificate and Trophy of this prestigious and competitive award was conferred June 5, 2007 by the president of the Canadian Institute of Planning (CIP) in Canada.

Since 1983, the institute has been bestowing awards to honour planning projects judged on their excellence, innovation, and contribution to the body of professional knowledge, implementation potential, and presentation. In 2007, there were 67 applicants for the awards that were presented in 12 categories. UN-HABITAT and Ecoplan won the award in the category of international development.

In 2005, UN-HABITAT in collaboration with Ecoplan International developed the training series entititled, ‘Promoting Local Economic Development through Strategic Planning’. UN-HABITAT has been actively disseminating and promoting this series through its training and capacity building activities, and technical support projects around the world.

In addition, the guide and portions of it have been translated into French, Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese and Romanian. Other translations are planned, including Portuguese and Swahili. To expand global reach and to respond to demand, UN-HABITAT and EcoPlan International are currently developing a Trainer’s Companion guide that will include: Pre-Training Support Tools; Core Trainer Support Tools; and, Post Training Evaluation Tools

The Canadian Institute of Planners, founded in 1919, is the national professional institute and certification body for the planning profession in Canada. The institute7,000 member planners in Canada and abroad.
