UN-HABITAT last month held special slum upgrading training sessions for newly elected councilors from four municipalities in the Tanzanian capital Dar Es Salaam as part of a support building programme. Local authority representatives from Ilala, Temeke, Tegeta and Kinondoni and Dar-es-Salaam City Council were given the training under a Cities Alliance Programme to prepare and implement a city-wide action plan to upgrade all unplanned and un-serviced settlements in Dar es Salaam by 2015. The Cities Alliance programme is funded by the Cities Alliance Secretariat, the Government of Tanzania, local authorities, UN-HABITAT and the International Labour Organization. |
