UN-HABITAT had set up land coordination groups in North Kivu Province and in Ituri District (Province Oriental). Under the leadership of the Minister of Land Affairs of North Kivu and the Land Commission of Ituri, the land coordination groups are seeking to consolidate and harmonise land reform and policies for each province. The coordination groups are drawn from the government land bodies, UN agencies, civil society, local and international NGOs working on land, the Customary Chiefs Association, the Provincial Committee for Pacification-North Kivu, a Group of Donors and the Land Commission in Ituri. The Land coordination drive is linked with other programmes including the return of displaced people in need of protection, shelter, as part of their return and reintegration into society.
