Residents of Kibera slums in Nairobi will soon be the proud of owners of a resource centre, courtesy of UN-HABITAT.
At a ceremony presided over by the director of monitoring and research division Mr. Oyeyinka Oyebanji, the residents were assured of the agency’s continued support.
This project is part of the Kenya Slum Upgrading Programme. Its purpose is to improve the lives of the 76,000 inhabitants of the Soweto slum village. the Kenya Slum Upgrading Programme is the result of collaboration between Former President Moi and the Executive Director of UN-HABITAT since November 2000. It was then that the Executive Director offered to spearhead a slum upgrading programme for Kenya starting with Nairobi's largest slum, Kibera.
