Marking the World Day to Combat Desertification
The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the All China Youth Federation, China's State Forestry Administration, and Future Forest jointly marked the World Day to Combat Desertification at the United Nations Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo.

The event attracted nearly 300 participants from South Korea, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia and other areas involved in environmental protection. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and UNCCD Executive Secretary Luc Gnacadja both sent welcome messages to the attendees.

Dr. Liu Tuo of the China State Forestry Administration, Mr. Ni Jian, Assistant President of All China Youth Federation and film director John Liu, were among the presenters and panellists.
During the event, discussions focused on combating desertification and climate change. The All China Youth Federation’s Hong Guimei talked about the fruitful results of their Desert Green Project with Japan and South Korea, showing photos of turning parts of the Inner Mongolia Kubuqi desert into an oasis over twelve years.

Since the early 90s, the All-China Youth Federation joined forces with Japan and South Korea youth organizations to carry out tree planting activities in Inner Mongolia. Since then, it has constructed nearly 8 acres of ecological protection forest which has effectively improved the local desert environment and played a role in promoting ecological restoration.

Their actions received high praise from the representative of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and the Chinese State Forestry Administration.
