 | United Nations Pavilion Commissioner General Awni Behnam awards visitor number 1 million with a trip to New York |
The United Nations Pavilion celebrated visitor number 1 million this morning.
When an 18-year old high school student from Hebei Handan visited the United Nations Pavilion just after 10am, she had little idea she was about to be the one millionth visitor to the Pavilion since it opened 82 days ago.
The United Nations Pavilion Commissioner General, Awni Behnam, Pavilion Director, Lars Reutersward and the Vice Minister of the International Exhibition of Shanghai World Expo Bureau, Chen Jiang, met the lucky visitor at the entrance hall of the UN pavilion and held a brief award ceremony inside.
The excited young lady said that she visited the Expo once after she completed her College Entrance Examination but there were still some pavilions she had not seen so she returned and became visitor number 1 million to the UN Pavilion. She said it felt incredible.
The student received an economy return ticket from Shanghai to New York and on her five-day trip will have the opportunity to visit the United Nations Headquarters and meet the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. She also received a signed UN certificate, a UN badge and stamps, some items of pottery, wine and tea.
The United Nations Pavilion looks forward to welcoming its 1.5 millionth and 2 millionth visitors in the coming months.
