Dr. Clos (r) receives the credentials from Mr. Vassalo.
The Executive Director, Dr. Joan Clos, has appealed to the Republic of Portugal to play a more active role in the affairs of the organization.
Dr. Clos made the call on Thursday while receiving the credentials from the new Permanent Representative of Portugal to UN-HABITAT, H.E. Mr. Alexandre Maria Lindim Vassalo.
Dr. Clos called on Portugal to celebrate one of the major events of the organization, like the World Habitat Day, and for the country to contribute more to the UN-HABITAT generally. Dr. Clos presented the envoy some recent publications by the organization.
Mr. Vassalo stated that his country will consider the requests favorably since getting more involved in the affairs of UN-HABITAT will be a kind of solidarity. He stated that his Government will decide on who will attend the Twenty-Third Session of the Governing Council of UN-HABITAT scheduled for Nairobi from 11-15 April 2011.
The envoy expressed appreciation to Dr. Clos for the reception accorded him and also for the publications presented to him.
