During his first official visit to Washington as Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, Dr. Clos also participated in an inter-agency meeting hosted at the Department of State which included officials from USAID, Housing and Urban Development, and the Environmental Protection Agency. In a separate meeting with officials at the Millennium Challenge Corporation, Dr. Clos discussed opportunities for corporation in urban development.
He also held talks with Mahmoud Mohieldin, Managing Director, The World Bank Group, and met separately Julie Katzman, Executive Vice President of the Inter-America Development Bank. These consultations provided Dr. Clos with an opportunity to introduce his new vision and explore areas for concrete and fruitful cooperation. Dr. Clos also visited the Brookings Institution for another set of talks with officials led by Bruce Katz, Vice President and Director of the Metropolitan Program and Kathy Sierra, Senior Fellow and former Vice President of the World Bank. The National Association of Realtors, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the International Housing Coalition, jointly hosted a round-table discussion which included senior representatives of US-based institutions active in the World Urban Forum and the World Urban Campaign. These included the US Conference of Mayors, the Urban Institute, the U.S. League of Cities, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center, the American Planning Association, Habitat for Humanity International, and the University of Pennsylvania. |
