UN-HABITAT and partners recently joined hands in delivering a successful World Water Day in Pakistan.

Those coming together with UN-HABITAT included the Ministry of Environment, UNICEF ,the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC), Plan-Pakistan, Save the Children Federation, and WaterAid.

The observance of the World Water Day 2011 took place in four cities and two towns, (a district headquarters and sub-divisional headquarters) of Pakistan. The events were managed by Pakistan Institute for Environment-Development Action Research.

More than 700 students from 131 schools participated in the event and they developed and presented a range of solutions to the challenge of clean drinking water for all. Officials from Ministry of Environment, representatives of UNICEF and UN-HABITAT, and officials from provincial departments made keynote addresses, acted as judges, and gave prizes to the leading schools and students in each competition category.

The theme for WWD 2011 was "Water and Cities: Responding to the Urban Challenge."
