China leads the way in harmonious cities as it scoops up 2008 World Habitat Day awards

UN-HABITAT and Cap-Net host workshop for water utilities
	Nairobi, Kenya, 22 Sept 08 The Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance led by UN-HABITAT, and Cap-Net, the capacity building arm of UNDP on IWRM, jointly hosted a two day planning workshop to plan a capacity building programme in water resources management for water utilities in Nairobi on 22-23 September 2008.


International Youth Day
	Nairobi, Kenya, 12 Aug 08 The international youth Day was marked on 12^th August 2008 all over the World. In Kenya, the celebrations were organized by UN HABITAT in collaboration with the Nairobi Area Youth Workers Network, One Stop Youth Resource Centre, Universal Peace Federation, The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and City Council of Nairobi.


Film workshop for slum youth opens at UN-HABITAT headquarters
	Nairobi, 11 Aug 08 A week-long workshop on film-making organized jointly by UN-HABITAT and the National Film Board of Canada for youth drawn from slum areas in Nairobi opened at the UN-HABITAT headquarters Monday.

	Nairobi, 22 Jul 08 UN-HABITAT announced on Tuesday that it had appointed a seasoned Special Advisor with global expertise to assist the Ugandan government


Tibaijuka hails the good relations between UN-HABITAT and the Republic of Korea
	Nairobi, 22 Jul 08 The Executive Director, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, has commended the Government of the Republic of Korea for its excellent relations with UN-HABITAT. She made the remarks today while receiving the credentials of the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to UN-HABITAT, Mr. Han-Gon Lee, at her office in Nairobi.


Global housing demand at critical levels
	Hong Kong, 18 Jul 08 The demand for affordable housing is reaching critical levels worldwide, with five million new units required per year, or 4,000 new housing alternatives needed every hour by a growing population of the poor, the Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, told the World Credit Union conference in Hong Kong this week.


UN-HABITAT partners with private firms for solid waste collection
	Nairobi, 7 Jul 08 Working in collaboration with two Kenyan engineering firms, UN-HABITAT has developed innovative tractor trailer system and a small pick up vehicle to meet the solid waste collection needs of small towns.

Microsoft donates computers to Kenyan youth
	Nairobi, 30 Jun 08 Microsoft East Africa last Friday donated a total of 210 computers to the Youth Empowerment Programmes in Kenya under the Ministry of Youth and Sports four of which went to the One Stop youth centre, an initiative of City Council of Nairobi supported by UN-HABITAT.
