Nigeria contributes USD 5 million to UN-Habitat

The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Government of Ondo State, Nigeria, this week announced a contribution totaling USD 5 million to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
Curtains fall on historic youth meeting

A historic four day global meeting, called “Youth 21 – Building for Change”, and bringing together over 250 youth with governments, UN agencies, researchers, private sector and civil society closed in Nairobi at the weekend with the release of the Nairobi Statement, a roadmap for the greater inclusion of youth in the UN system.  
First African urban youth assembly to be held in Abuja

Young people from some 53 African countries are set to congregate in Abuja, Nigeria between 26-28 July 2011 for the first ever urban youth assembly on the continent.

Urban youth fund beneficiaries attend training course

Transparency in land administration

Some 30 participants from the West Africa region last week congregated at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), for a an eye-opening training on transparency in land administration. Organised jointly by UN-HABITAT and the International Institute for Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) the workshop attracted participants from Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Training for better cities in Nigeria

UN-HABITAT conducted an urban management course for Nigerian ministers, municipal officials and other experts last week to help 12 specially selected cities improve their urban governance as part of a programme finance by the Urban Development Bank of Nigeria. The idea is to conduct rapid surveys in each city aimed at helping them identify problem areas and then finding the best solutions.
New envoys present credentials to UN-HABITAT

Three new Permanent Representatives this week presented their credentials to the Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka. They are Mr. Muhammad K. Ndanusa of Nigeria, Mr. Apichit Asatthawasi of Thailand, and their counterpart from Sudan, Mr. Makok Guandong. Mrs. Tibaijuka expressed her appreciation to the three countries for their support to UN-HABITAT.
Tibaijuka receives new envoys
