UN-Habitat starts an official visit to Rwanda
	Kigali, 16 Jan 12 Dr. Joan Clos, UN-Habitat Executive Director, and Dr. Aisa Kirabo, UN-Habitat Deputy Executive Director, this week started an official visit to Kigali, capital of Rwanda, visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site for the victims of the 1994 Genocide.


Youth representatives get training under Youth Fund
	Zanzibar, 11 Jan 12 Some 16 representatives from youth groups in East and Southern Africa that were successful in the 2011 round of UN-HABITAT's Urban Youth Fund recently attended training in Zanzibar.


UN-HABITAT and BASF Foundation to set up energy centre in a Mozambican slum
	Nairobi, 30 Dec 11 UN-HABITAT will collaborate with the municipality of Beira and the BASF Social Foundation to improve living conditions of slum dwellers in Munhava slum, in the city of Beira, building a Multifunctional Clean Energy Centre (MCEC).


UN-HABITAT and partners in water laboratories iniative in India
	Mangalore, India , 28 Dec 11 As part of the project “Promotion of Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Education and Water Quality Monitoring in Mangalore City, India”, water quality testing laboratories are being jointly established by the German company BASF, UN-HABITAT and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in eight schools in Mangalore.

Port-au-Prince hosts ‘the city we want’ forum
	Port-au-Prince, 21 Dec 11 About 700 people recently gathered in the Haitian capital This event was organized by the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation in Haiti with the support of UN-HABITAT and United Nations Development Programme as part of the strategic planning exercise for the reconstruction and development of the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.


European Commission sends monitoring mission to UN-HABITAT project
	Nairobi, 20 Dec 11 The European Commission (EC) was in Nairobi from 24-28 October 2011, to review the Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme (PSUP) implementation process as well as to discuss extended activities for the year 2012. The EC has so far given 4 million Euros to the programme. Additional resources are ear marked for the year 2012, to implement tangible response initiatives. FRENCH
