Improving water delivery in Asia

USAID’s ECO-Asia project, a regional environmental programme based in Thailand, is offering grants of up to USD 10,000 to any private organization, NGO or academic institutions working in countries eligible for USAID that can demonstrate how they can improve water services in the region.

Peter Swan: Remembering a valued colleague

UN-HABITAT regrets to announce the passing of Mr. Peter Swan. An Australian national born in 1946, he suffered a heart attack at his adoptive home in Bangkok, Thailand on 23 November, 2008. Mr. Swan joined the agency in 1989 as officer in charge of its information division. During this period he was responsible for all video presentations at the Habitat II ‘City Summit’ in Istanbul.From 1995 to 1998 he served in Bangkok, as Coordinator of the Community Development Programme for Asia, before assuming responsibility for UN-HABITAT’s Cambodia programme in Phnom Penh.

Mrs. Tibaijuka made the commendation on Thursday while receiving the credentials from the new Permanent Representative of Finland to UN-HABITAT, Ms. Heli Sirve.
New envoys present credentials to UN-HABITAT

Three new Permanent Representatives this week presented their credentials to the Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka. They are Mr. Muhammad K. Ndanusa of Nigeria, Mr. Apichit Asatthawasi of Thailand, and their counterpart from Sudan, Mr. Makok Guandong. Mrs. Tibaijuka expressed her appreciation to the three countries for their support to UN-HABITAT.
UN-HABITAT and Southeast Asian partners discuss water education in schools

UN-HABITAT and its partners held a three-day conference to help senior officials in Southeast Asia gain a better understanding of the agency’s Water for Asian Cities Programme and the idea of bringing the concepts of water conservation, sanitation and hygiene into school classrooms across the region.
