UN-Habitat joins hands with Myanmar

UN-HABITAT and Myanmar have signed a new agreement on disaster risk management designed to help the country shore itself up better against disasters such as cyclones which have claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced countless more people in recent years.
UN-Habitat’s schools for displaced children in Mogadishu

UN-HABITAT’s Executive Director Anna Tibaijuka on Tuesday was given the coveted Göteborg Award for Sustainable Development. Widely known as the “Nobel Prize for the Environment”, she shared the 2009 award with Enrique Peñalosa, the former mayor of Bogotá, Colombia, and the world renowned hero of the environment, Sören Hermansen, of Samsö, Denmark.
Mrs. Tibaijuka signs climate petition

The Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, signed the “Seal the Deal” climate change petition to reminding world leaders to negotiate a fair, balanced and effective agreement at the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Copenhagen in December 2009.
