The Urban Management Programme Phase Three Report covers activities of the programme from 1997-2001. The report features lessons and experiences from each of the four regions, Africa, Asia, Arab States and Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition, case studies from each of the regions are included to highlight the lessons learned and the core themes of the programme – the urban environment, poverty reduction, participatory urban governance and gender issues. Much of the text focuses on the city consultation process, which is a cornerstone activity of the UMP, and has been undertaken in 120 cities worldwide. The final section of the report provides a look at the future of the programme and the outputs produced by the UMP thus far.
