This is a result of a pilot project commissioned by UN-HABITAT and the Government of India in alleviating poverty in a participatory manner by involving communinities in three of India’s cities, namely; Lucknow, Rajkot and Visakhapatnam. This publication highlights that if communities are given the necessary support, they can contribute significantly to the management of their infrustructure at the local level through community based management.
