Norway Boosts UN-HABITAT Water and Sanitation Trust Fund by US$ 7 Million.
The Government of Norway announced a major contribution of US $ 7 million to the UN-HABITAT Water and Sanitation Trust Fund in October 2005, to help alleviate the water and sanitation crisis confronting millions of slum dwellers across Africa and Asia. Norway’s support for the UN-HABITAT Water and Sanitation Trust Fund began in 2003 with an initial contribution of US$280,000. This was followed by a commitment to contribute US$ 7 million for 2005, as well as additional regular financing of $1.5 million per year to the Fund announced by Norway’s Minister of International Development, Ms. Hilde Johnson.
