UN-HABITAT organized an Expert Group Meeting on “Energy Access for Poor Urban Settlements” on 4-6 December 2006 at the United Nations Offices in Nairobi. This was an action-oriented forum which addressed various topics, namely Barriers for use of modern energy in poor urban settlements; Access to affordable clean modern energy options; Energy Efficiency for Buildings-in-use and Building Construction; Energy for water and sanitation services provision; and Energy efficiency and Transport. It was attended by experts on Energy Access for Poor Urban Settlements from Governments, International Organizations, Universities, NGOs, Private Sector and Civil Society, who had the opportunity to exchange and integrate various best practices, lessons learnt and perspectives, into the development of a programme of action for effectively improving modern energy access for the poor urban settlements.
