Water Conservation and Demand Management and Community–based Water Supply and Sanitation Project Puer, Yunnan Province, PR China
In recent years, Puer water utility has renovated the main water supply pipes using the state-bond. Some main pipes have reached to these communities. However, the communities are unable to have connection due to lack of finance. The proposed pilot project is to construct a branch pipeline to connect four communites with population of 3200. The total investment will be US$60,000. The communities and the Puer water utility are prepared to provide US$30,000 in kind. This project will be a very useful demonstration of how communities can mobilise and work effectively with local authorities to meet the MDG. The proposal also include provision for the development of media materials to demonstrate the approach and the benefits that can be acheved
