Globally, towns and cities of all sizes are growing at unprecedented rates, making sustainable urbanization one of the most pressing challenges facing the global community in this century. Promoting sustainable urban development is a priority for most urban development partners and is reflected in most of urban policies and joint efforts as a fundamental objective. Clearly, a wide range of knowledge, tools and resources are generally available to support implementation processes of policies and initiatives, but there is still a lack adequate access, relevant forums for interaction and the necessary human, technical and financial capacities to leverage resources necessary for promoting sustainable urban development.
