Hundreds of millions of people in urban areas across the world will be affected by climate change. The overall vulnerability of human settlements in this urban era will increase through rising sea levels, frequent and stronger tropical cyclones, and inland flooding. At the same time, cities are major contributors to Greenhouse Gas emissions and therefore they need to be at the forefront of mitigation efforts.
